On Wednesday night, Feb. 1, 2012, Donald Handy was shot and killed by Sheriff’s deputies in his East Lancaster home on the 44900 block of Spearman Avenue, after officers entered the residence with a search warrant. After stand-off, man decides not to jump off freeway

A man contemplating suicide was in a stand-off with Sheriff’s deputies for several hours, as he sat on the edge of the northbound 14 Freeway over Lancaster Boulevard on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. The man later surrendered to deputies, who took him into custody.

Roads were shut down for several hours on Tuesday after an unmarked detective’s vehicle heading Eastbound on Avenue I struck a westbound car making a left turn onto 23rd Street West at approximately 11:30 a.m. The Sheriff’s deputy, who suffered lacerations on his head and right hand after being thrown into the vehicle’s windshield, was taken to a nearby hospital.
